The city of Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and the most populous city in the country. It has a population of 506 892 inhabitants, within its administrative limits. In the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, 2,821,697 people live (2011), making it the largest and most populous metropolitan area in the country. Lisbon is the political center of Portugal, the seat of the Government and the residence of the Head of State. It is the "Lusophone Lighthouse": the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) has its headquarters in the city. It is also the westernmost capital of the European continent on the Atlantic coast. It is also known for its monuments and gastronomy, starting with the famous "Pasteis de Belém".

How to get to ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon?

By bus

Bus number 701 or 754 stop at Avenida das Forças Armadas, just close to ISCTE-IUL

Bus number 755 stop at Cidade Universitária (5 minutes walking to ISCTE-IUL)

By train

  1. Stop at Entrecampos train station, in Avenida da República;
  2. Walk 250m towards Entrecampos roundabout
  3. At the roundabout turn left, up to the Avenida das Forças Armadas and walk about 150m
  4. ISCTE-IUL entrance will be on your right (signposted and a little recessed from the street, before the top of the hill).

By subway

  1. Take the yellow line and stop at Entrecampos metro station
  2. Walk towards Entrecampos roundabout
  3. At the roundabout turn left, up to the Avenida das Forças Armadas and walk about 150m
  4. ISCTE-IUL entrance will be on your right (signposted and a little recessed from the street, before the top of the hill).

From the airport (Lisbon International Airport, 7 km from the city centre)

  • Aero-Bus: first stop Entrecampos, ticket costs 3,50€.
  • Regular bus: Line 744, direction Marquês de Pombal, stop at Entrecampos; or Line 783, direction Amoreiras, stop at Entrecampos
  • Subway: take the red line, direction S. Sebastião and stop at Saldanha metro station; change to the yellow line, direction Odivelas and stop at Entrecampos metro station; 5 minutes walking to ISCTE-IUL.
  • Taxi: to ISCTE-IUL, Av. das Forças Armadas (average price 8€/10€)
